Description

Under the direction of the Palliative Care Manager, the Palliative Care RN - is responsible for individual patient/family assessment, facilitating patient care, performing patient and family education in conjunction with Palliative Care Physicians, ARNP's and other members of the palliative care team and the patient care team.  Assessment will include complex medical, emotional, social, spiritual and financial needs and assisting families and healthcare team to create a comprehensive care plan based on family goals. Regularly communicates with Social Services to help facilitate to both community-based and Providence resources. This position is the hub of multiple lines of communication between the patient, referring physician, palliative care physician and both inpatient/outpatient support services providers. This position is also responsible for assessing and facilitating appropriate treatment per orders for patients who are at end of life on "Comfort Care". The position encompasses the roles of nursing assessment, liaison abilities, communication, education and team / family support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: Washington Registered Nurse License.
  • 3 years Nursing experience.
  • 3 years Oncology, medical-surgical, geriatric, critical care, palliative care, and/or nursing care of the terminally ill patient. 
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Experience in collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Upon hire: Hospice and Palliative Care Certification.
  • Experience in pediatric and adult nursing.
  • 3 years Nursing experience in oncology and supportive care in the inpatient or out-patient setting.
  • Clinical nursing care in ICU, oncology, medical-surgical, palliative care nursing and/or hospice.
  • Experience in providing patient and staff education.
  • Experience in grief counseling and crisis intervention.
