DescriptionUT Regional One Physicians is currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner for our Palliative Care Department.
Inpatient care throughout the hospital primarily working a M - F Schedule 8a - 5p.
A Brief Overview
Acts as a palliative care provider performing health care assessments, diagnosis, treatment, preventive health care, instructions and follow-up care to patients in the management of patient and family care following established protocols.
What you will do
- Functions as the primary health care provider to a group of patients. Obtains a health history and performs a physical exam in order to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan in accordance with established standards, procedures and practices. Requisitions laboratory tests and x-ray exams when appropriate.
- Assesses, treats and manages specific medical illnesses and conditions according to medical regime utilizing established protocols.
- Consults and works collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers in compliance with iRESPECT standards to coordinate and implement activities, promote patient/customer satisfaction and to develop an effective treatment plan. Provides direction to other personnel and reviews medical records to verify that patient’s care plan and medical needs are being met.
- Provides referrals for hospitalization, tests, therapies or specialty consultations; makes hospital rounds if indicated.
- Performs duties of registered nurse as required to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Advises and counsels patients and/or others concerning physical and developmental well- being and defines the needs and problems. Identifies
- community health resources and guides patients and/or significant others in their use.
- Provides for continuity of effective patient and family care by exchanging
- information and cooperating with other community health/social service
- agencies, hospitals and health care providers.
- Develops and implements plans for teaching/counseling individuals, families and groups in various settings for the prevention of disease and
- maintenance of health.

- Assists in the orientation and oversees the supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
- Documents and updates medical and patient charts. Prepares and maintain required records, reports, statistics and files.

- Maintains active credentialing by medical staff.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Required and
- Master's Degree Preferred and
- Additional training may be required for specialty areas Required and
- Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required
- Nurse Practitioner certification or registry eligible Upon Hire Required and
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in State of Tennessee Upon Hire Required and
- Eligible for Certificate of Fitness (Prescriptive privileges) in State of Tennessee Upon Hire Required and
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
- Additional certification in specialty areas may be required (i.e., Family Nurse Practitioner, OB Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Nurse Practitioner) Upon Hire Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. Required and
- Additional experience may be required in assigned specialty area. Required
